Wine Touring in History

Wine touring in Naoussa’s vineyards at the foothills of mount Vermion, whilst strolling in the land of Alexander the Great.

CONTACT & BOOK TOUR

Authentic wineries in historic landscapes unique in the world!

Wine making in the area of Naoussa has a long history dating back many centuries.

Nowadays, wine touring in the PDO region of Naoussa is an experience by itself, if on top of that you add the unique history of Macedonians and Alexander the Great you are in for a real treat !

We will start by visiting two unique museums, the Archaeological Museum of Vergina with the royal tombs and the Polycentric Museum of Aegae. You will immerse in the culture of Macedonians and admire the unique relics that were found in these tombs untouched from 336BC.

Our journey will then lead us to the unique and authentic Dalamara winery. Now it’s the turn of Kostis the 5th generation to continue the legacy that his ancestors started back in 1840. They will take us on a tour of wine-making tanks, the bottling area and the ageing wine-vault.

From the winery we will be led to the wine-tasting hall that serves also as a traditional distillery where we will be able to taste the PDO Naoussa wines of the estate and see the exhibition of the traditional family tools used for cultivating vines.

But nothing is finished yet, because we are heading to Ktima Kir-Yianni, a beautiful winery perched on the hills of Mount Vermion. Today, Stellios Boutaris, member of the fifth generation of winemakers, leads Kir-Yianni into the next phase of its history, by dynamically exploiting the cornerstones of the Kir-Yianni philosophy: desire for innovation, respect for tradition and true knowledge of the wine, from the grape to the end consumer.

We will resume our winery tour with an exquisite Food & Wine pairing lunch in the estate’s restaurant overlooking the vineyards and Mount Vermion.

Wine Tour Itinerary

Time Schedule

9am Start of our Wine and Tasting Odyssey!

10:15am We will arrive at the ancient city of Aegae to explore both the Archaeological Museum of Vergina and the new Polycentric Museum of Aegae. The first, built around the tomb of King Philip II, father of Alexander the Great, holds breathtaking treasures—gold wreaths, armor, and perfectly preserved tombs. The second expands the story of Aegae, showcasing the royal palace and daily life in Macedonia. Together, they offer an unforgettable journey through 2,300 years of history. Our visit will last about 2h in both museums.

12:30pm We will continue our drive to the foothills of Mount Vermion and we will arrive at Dalamara Winery just at the entrance of the beautiful city of Naoussa. This lovely and authentic winery is run by Kostis -5th generation- and his wife Maria, who continue the legacy that his ancestors started back in 1840.

2:30pm Through the scenic countryside of this wine making land we will arrive at Ktima Kir-Yianni (ktima=estate) in Yanakohori. This iconic winery was built in 1997 by Yiannis Boutaris and today is run by his son Stellios Boutaris, member of the fifth generation of winemakers who leads Kir-Yianni into the next phase of its history.

Our tour will start with a walk around the vines that surround the winery, the tiny lake with the vegetable garden that provides the restaurant with fresh produce, the traditional house “Koula Tower” and the fallen oak that stood tall and strong until a heavy thunderstorm took it down a few years back. We will continue inside the winery where we will learn about the vinification methods and discover the underground cellars that hold the treasures of the estate. Our last stop will be at the newly renovated restaurant with breathtaking views over the mountains and savour an exquisite wine pairing lunch.

6pm We’ll wrap up our adventure as we head back to Thessaloniki.
