Vineyards with magnificent views of Thermaikos bay area and Mount Olympus, just a short trip from the city.

Sunny vineyards gazing at Mount Olympus

This journey will take us a few steps away from the city and into the vineyards of PGI Epanomi. Mount Olympus looms over the vines as a guardian angel protecting them from harm.

We’ll start the day by stepping into the world of small-scale, handcrafted wine production. Tucked away in the countryside, our first stop will be in one of three intimate, family-run wineries — each chosen for its character, quality, and deep-rooted connection to the land. The visit, usually led by the winemaker, offers a behind-the-scenes look at their personal approach to vine-growing and cellar work. You’ll sample at least three unique wines, each reflecting the soul of the vineyard and the story of those who make them.

Next winery will be at the renowned Ktima (=estate) Gerovassiliou where the vines gaze at Mount Olympus and benefit from the constant sea breezes of the Aegean. The Owner aside from being a trendsetter and undeniably one of the best winemakers in Greece, is also an avid art lover and collector of wine objects and corkscrews. These are displayed in the Wine Museum of the estate. The wine tasting of these iconic wines takes place in the new building that floats over the vines and gazes at the mountain.

Wine Tour Itinerary

Time Schedule

10am Start of our Wine and Tasting Odyssey!

10:45am Our journey begins at one of the area’s select micro-wineries — each a testament to artisanal winemaking and terroir expression. Depending on the day and the winemaker’s schedule, we’ll visit one of three carefully curated family-owned estates, each producing limited-batch wines with passion and precision. You’ll enjoy a guided stroll by the winemaker him/herself through the estate and taste at least three of their lovingly crafted wines — a true local experience you won’t find in guidebooks.

1:15pm Our next wine experience will be Ktima Gerovassiliou, one of the most established and acclaimed wineries of Northern Greece. The owner Mr. Gerovassiliou, is the responsible person for the revival of Malagouzia, an old and forgotten Greek variety which he has cultivated with love since the 80’s.

His love for art is prominent, as dispersed in the vineyards you will see his significant collection from Greek and international sculptors. He is also an avid collector of viticulture, winemaking, bottling and cooperage tools from around the world and especially corkscrews; all these items are displayed in the Wine Museum of the estate that we will visit during our tour. The tasting takes place in the unique area overlooking the vines and Mount Olympus, where you will taste wines exclusively produced from Greek grape varieties. Combined with aromatically compatible Greek raw materials.

3:30pm We’ll wrap up our adventure as we head back to Thessaloniki.

Aslanis Family Winery

A genuine family-run enterprise in every sense. The father, Laskaris Aslanis, dedicates his efforts to tending the vineyard, while his wife Syrmo expertly manages the finances. Their daughters are also deeply involved: Vicky leads the sales and marketing, and Lena, trained in enology, focuses primarily on the winemaking process in the cellar. The estate's organically farmed vineyards are located on a picturesque plot in Nea Michaniona, Thessaloniki. Laskaris’s devotion is evident in each bottle produced, with the indigenous Limnio variety standing out—earning a place among Greece’s 50 Best Wines in 2021.

Visitors can experience the authenticity of Greek viticulture in a serene natural setting, surrounded by history, passion, and cutting-edge facilities. Each bottle reflects the region’s heritage and the winemakers’ commitment to quality. A visit here promises more than a tasting—it's a journey into the soul of northern Greece’s wine culture.

Ktima Gerovassiliou

This estate is located at the hills of Epanomi with its 75 hectares of private vineyards, that are caressed by the gentle sea breeze under Zeus’ supervision. The three buildings host a state of the art winery, the Wine Museum and the Reception Area where tastings and events take place. Works of art from famous Greek sculptors are scattered across the vines which make your visit even more stimulating.
