1. What is a wine tour and what to expect?
A typical wine tour involves a daily excursion to various vineyards. Upon arrival, the wine tourists are guided through the production areas, occasionally extending to nearby vineyards if feasible. The informative tour covers harvest, grape selection, fermentation, aging, and bottling processes. The culmination of the experience involves a wine tasting, offering one to six wines based on the selected package. Some wineries may enhance the experience with optional extras, such as small bites or a cheese and charcuterie platter, perfectly paired to complement the tasting.
2. Should I book in advance?
Yes, definitely ! Here in Northern Greece, all the wineries are small and family run. Planning ahead is crucial, as these boutique establishments may be occupied, closed, or observing their day off.
3. Which is the best season for visiting Northern Greece?
My preferred seasons for wine tourism are spring (April to June) and fall (September to November). However, the charm of wine touring transcends seasons, offering unique beauty year-round. Each time of year imparts a distinct ambiance to the vineyard experience.
