Drama’s Fantastic Wine Journey

Time Schedule

8:30am Start of our Wine and Tasting Odyssey!

10:30am We will reach Aggitis River Source Cave where we will have a guided visit of the cave while walking on the “paved pathway” that floats over the river.

12:45pm Next stop on our trip will be Oenogenesis, a charming winery located in the middle of the Drama wine region. Alexander, an oenologist and second generation in winemaking of the estate, will give us the grand tour and will explain the vinification methods used and the philosophy behind the fine wines that we are going to taste.

2pm After a very short drive we will enter Château Nico Lazaridi. We can admire the vines that enfold the winery and go on a tour of the winery where the vinification methods of the estate will be explained. Our tour will conclude with a wine tasting of their most iconic wines.

4pm Just a twenty minute drive and we will reach the city of Drama. Well known for the tobacco merchants that have thrived in the city in the early 20th century, now it’s a hub for young people and good food. We will have our typical Greek lunch here that will be accompanied by some of the wines you have tasted or maybe try some new ones?

7pm approximately Our journey will come to an end with a scenic drive back, through the mountains and the lakes.

Cave of Aggitis River

It is the only river cave existing in Greece, as well as the largest in length and volume!

We will have a guided tour of the great chamber that is 500 m length and is full of stalactites, some of which have a diameter of 2m and touch the surface of the water. The colours in the stalactites are due to the presence of minerals found in the area, such as manganese, iron, copper.

Because of high humidity and a constant 17 degrees Celsius all year, a light jacket is definitely needed during the summer months.

Oenogenesis Winery

This winery is located in the middle of one of the best wine regions of Greece. The owner Bakis Tsalkos and his son Alexandros who studied oenology in France, welcome us and invite us to a memorable tour of the premises.

Located in the heart of the vineyards, the winery itself is a beautiful building that looks like a Macedonia "castle".

The tour will take us through the vinification area and the cellars where their treasures lie in barrels and age undisturbed. Later we will have the chance to taste wines from both the winemakers -father and son- as each one crafts his wines according to his character.

Château Nico Lazaridi

The winery was founded in 1997 by Nico Lazaridi, now the winery is run by his son and his grandchildren. Iconic and distinguished, the aim of the winemaker is the production of premium wines, with pleasing aroma and flavour characteristics.

In these vineyards, Greek and international grape varieties grow with the aim to reveal the unique characteristics of the region, a terroir used from ancient times until today for vine cultivation.

We will have a guided tour of the winery and then visit the mystical gallery by the cellars for a wine tasting

Lunch in Drama

Small but vibrant city, well known for the dynamic tobacco merchants that have thrived in the city in the early 20th century, now it’s a hub for bars, cafes and delicious food. In this restaurant, we will enjoy a typical Greek lunch accompanied by wines from local vineyards.
